TELL OUR LAWMAKERS TO BAN PET STORES FROM SELLING ANIMALS FROM COMMERCIAL BREEDERS (AKA: PUPPY MILLS). ASK THEM TO ENFORCE THE SAME ORDINANCES AS OTHER STATES! PET STORES MUST SELL DOGS AND CATS FROM SHELTERS.
Up to 300,000 animals are euthanized every year in the state of Georgia. 90% are adoptable, but must be killed in order to make room in the already overpopulated shelters, animal control and state funded facilities.
*** The current animal welfare system costs GA taxpayers over $140 million annually, with millions going towards euthanizing healthy cats and dogs. ***
Federal courts in Arizona, Florida, Rhode Island and Illinois have already upheld ordinances to ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats from commercial breeders. Puppy mills are notorious for animal welfare violations, abuse, neglect and horrible living conditions. Read more about Commercial Breeders/Puppy Mills on the GA ASPCA website:
