Ban Single-Use Plastic Bags in Newtown, CT!
Americans use about 100 billion plastic bags every year and only about 3% are recycled. The rest end up in landfills and in our oceans.
We are all at risk from these pollutants which contain toxic chemicals -- poisoning us and the marine life. If we keep on our present course, by the
year 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish! (World Economic Forum Study, 2018).
We can and must take action to eliminate the use of unnecessary plastic in our daily lives. Let's start with eliminating single-use plastic bags.
Many countries have banned the use of plastic bags. Connecticut towns including Westport and Greenwich have both successfully passed their own plastic bag bans and there are several others working on similar bans. Newtown uses an estimated 3,000,000 bags per year! It is time for us to say no to plastic bags!

Why is this important?
Use of single-use plastic bags have severe downstream impacts - affecting both human and marine life. Newtown is trying to pass its own single-use plastic bag ban, and without the support of the residents here, it would be hard to pass a ban.
