Ban the box in Illinois Support HB5701

We want employers in Illinois to not be allowed to ask if a person has been convicted of a felony on the employment application before an applicant can show that they are qualified for the position and explain under what circumstances the offence may have occurred.

Why is this important?

Once you a criminal record in our country it can destroy your whole life. Your chance for decent housing, food, education, everything is tied to your ability to work. Due to the disproportionate number of Blacks caught in the criminal injustice system, the question about criminal history is used as a proxy for race. As a person of faith I want to work for justice.
