Benjamin Godwin Memorial Park
Dear Walton County Commissioner and Board Members,
After the recent tragic accident and loss of one of the community's native sons, Benjamin Godwin, who was born here and lived here in this community his entire life, whose family was one of the founding pioneer families of Freeport going back many generations and are still here as part of the backbone and literal life blood of our community, we humbly petition this board to name the park and boat ramp at the north end of 393 the
"Benjamin Godwin Memorial Park".
In honor of Benjamin Godwin, who lost his life at the early age of 35, on December 3, 2024, in a tragic boating accident when his boat took on water and was capsized in Choctawhatchee Bay on a cold windy evening while boating alone. Rescuers, anglers, family and friends searched for 3 days before finding Ben. To honor Ben, his wife, Jessica Godwin, and his 2-year-old son, Wyatt, we ask for your consideration and are grateful for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Citizens of Walton County and
The Godwin Family
