Presidential Medal of Freedom for Black Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman

Dear Friends,
Thank you so very much for signing the petition "Presidential Medal of Freedom for Black Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman." However, Representatives Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, Charlie Crist of Florida and Nancy Mace of South Carolina have introduced a bipartisan bill to award Officer Goodman, Iraq combat vet, the Congressional Gold Medal which is the highest U.S. military decoration. In light of these recent events I am terminating my petition. Again, I thank you all for joining me in seeking the recognition Officer Goodman so richly deserves.

Most sincerely,

Gia Galeano

On January 6, 2021, lone Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman single-handedly fought off an insurrectionist mob that had breached the Capitol Building in Washington, DC. He strategically and successfully steered the violent attackers away from the Senate Chamber to an area where there was backup. For Officer Goodman's heroic bravery the Presidential Medal of Freedom should be bestowed upon him in addition to a plaque with his name commemorating the spot where he valiantly fended off the riotous mob.

Why is this important?

Officer Eugene Goodman risked life and limb to courageously and without assistance defend the citadel of American democracy. His heroic and fearless actions helped prevent unimaginable bloodshed in the Senate Chamber. He unquestionably deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
