"Blackfeet Tribal Business Council: Enforce Ordinance 67
We understand that we have a broken political system which needs much change and our Blackfeet Nation is known and regarded as a strong progressive people that have been at the forefront of making strong progressive changes that have benefited not only our own Blackfeet Nation, but all other Native Nations. We believe we can fix our broken system even if it takes one step at a time. It can be done with progressive change not with aggressive change. Aggressive change will only end with irrevocable damages to the Blackfeet Nation as a whole.
Why is this important?
The Blackfeet Constitution under Article VI-Powers of the Council, Amendment VI, reads in part under (k) that the powers of the council are responsible for the safeguarding and peace of the residents of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. It is therefore your responsibility to enact the laws that ensure the safeguarding and peace of the residents of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation; not limited to the membership only, but also yourselves as duly elected officials representing all 16,000 plus members by enforcing such laws. As members of the Blackfeet Nation we understand the Civil Liberties of all Blackfeet members which states that all members of the tribe may enjoy without hindrance freedom of worship, conscience, speech, press, assembly and association, but we also see the need to enforce Ordinance 67 that states; "Whoever forcibly assaults, threatens, practices intimidation upon, or interferes with any Blackfeet Tribal Business Council, upon conviction be fined $500.00 and six months imprisonment in the Blackfeet jail" for the purposes of safeguarding and keeping the peace not only to ensure your safety, but the safety of all members of the Blackfeet Nation before it escalates and brings harm to not only yourselves or your families, but also to any individual member or families of the Blackfeet Nation.
