BOYCOTT Rental application fees!

There needs to be some government regulations when it comes to "Rental Application Fees".
Landlords and Property owners continue to raise these fees with a claim that it pays for a CREDIT check and BACKGROUND check, when really they can do this for under $25.00.
The reason for this petition and boycott is because the fees are now starting to be raised to 40.00-50.00/PER person, including anyone 18 and over. These are non-refundable fees, and if you offer to bring your credit report to them yourself as opposed to them looking at it, they usually won't allow.

Renting is already so expensive, that many people are already paying their landlords mortgage.

There was a landlord that I applied to their townhome, paid $40.00, at an "OPEN HOUSE", which I try to stay away from right now, but "many" people were handing this gentleman their applications and paying the fees. As I sat in my car filing out the application, I saw over ten people go in and apply for the home. A few weeks later I drove by, and...the same man, who claimed to be a landlord was actually LIVING in the unit himself. He had an open house, and in the short time I was there he made at least $400.00.. I Know he had to make more as his open house was on for the weekend from noon to four pm.

This sort of scamming is occurring because people are continuing to pay. Even when you feel desperate, as I have when looking for housing, we as renters need to say..."NO!" that we won't pay this large of a fee, and there needs to be some punitive law in place to not allow this.

Please sign this petition as I want to give it to our Congressman in Colorado, and present it for lawmakers to help those of us who have no alternative but to rent.
Please sign this petition, as I know you have come across this type of fee, especially if you've looked on Craig's list or Zillow. My hopes would be that Zillow would not post someone's property if they charged over a certain amount in an application fee.

Thank you. .. I hope this makes a difference, because something has to save us..

Why is this important?

I have rented my entire adult life, and I've been paying someone else's mortgage long enough. I don't want to pay more money to property owners that is not justified or warranted for them to review a rental application.
