In the tight housing market in California, tenants who receive a government subsidy for their rent should not be faced with an additional challenge to find and keep housing. We call upon the governor and legislators to ban Section 8 discrimination.
Why is this important?
With skyrocketing rents and low vacancy rates, we all know how hard it is to find housing these days in California.
Why then, does California allow landlords to discriminate against tenants with Section 8 vouchers? The tenants have the money to pay the rent, but it's common in advertisements for apartments to see "NO Section 8."
California law does not expressly ban Section 8 discrimination, emboldening landlords to blatantly discriminate against low-income tenants .
