California is losing $246 million a year from a loophole which allows companies to dodge taxes. Instead of corporate welfare, we should close this loophole and use that money to expand preschool programs for our kids.
Why is this important?
Corporations, like Google, continue to dodge taxes by shifting profits made here to offshore tax havens that have little to no taxes. It’s time to stop letting giant corporations get away without paying their fair share.
Montana and Oregon have already passed laws to recoup money stashed in offshore tax havens. If we enacted the same policy here in California, it would generate $246 million dollars that we could use to invest in kids who don't have access to preschool.
Right now, less than half of 3- and 4-year old kids are even enrolled in preschool.
It's time to make corporations pay their fair share so we can give our kids the strong start they deserve.
