The state of New Mexico, in order to address the issue of teen pregnancy, must amend the laws for sexual consent to 18/18.
New Mexico has the second highest rate of teen pregnancy in the nation at 52 births in 1000 women ages 15-19. New Mexico also has a low rate for high school graduation, 63%. Amending the laws for sexual consent will reduce teen pregnancy, and will improve the high school graduation rate.
Why is this important?
Currently the law in New Mexico for sexual consent reflects the ages of 13/16.
