Congress should finally pass legislation to change the United States to the Simple Metric System of Weights and Measures.
Why is this important?
When our nation was founded, we had pounds, shillings and pennies where: 1 shilling = 12 pennies, and 1 pound = 20 shillings. It was very complicated. You divide by 12 and 20, carry, to add numbers.
Our nation adopted decimal currency where 1 dollar = 100 cents.
When our nation was founded, we had inches, feet, yards, fathoms, miles, etc. where: 1 foot = 12 inches, 1 yard = 3 feet, and 1 mile = 63360 inches.
Today, we still use this old world legacy system. We need to bring our weights and measures up to the twenty first century. Congress should finally pass legislation to finish the metric conversion, stalled in the 1980s.
