Changing the City of Newburyport residential speed limit from 30mph to 20mph.

We the residents of Newburyport, living on the streets of Plummer, Jefferson and Christopher are concerned about the pedestrian safety in our neighborhood. The speed limit of 30 miles per hour is too fast for thickly settled residential neighborhood roads where children play. With approximately 20-30 children collectively living and playing on the stated streets, and the recent closing(long term) of the Heinz bridge, we have become increasingly concerned about the increased traffic and excessive speed of the vehicles that put our children and ourselves at risk. As a unified group we are petitioning the speed limits on the stated roads to be changed from 30mph to 20mph before someone gets seriously hurt or even worse killed.  We are looking to you the Mayor who was appointed by the residents of Newburyport, to help protect the residents of Newburyport. We know that we can count on you to help resolve this problem.

Why is this important?

Our petition is to change the speed limit on the streets of Plummer, Christopher and Jefferson from 30 mph to 20mph. We also suggest this change to be city wide in all thickly settled residential roads in Newburyport.
