Charge Bundys in Oregon Siege with Sedition

Once again, an armed group of extreme right-wing terrorists have occupied federal land, incited armed rebellion, and directly engaged in treason against the United States. Ammon Bundy, his family, and their supporters directly threaten the national security of the United States; their actions should no longer be tolerated.

Title 18 of United States Code ยง 2384 defines "Seditious conspiracy" as conspiring "to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof..." The Oregon traitors have directly opposed the force of the federal government with arms, delayed the execution of the law by illegally interfering with the judicial process, and occupied and possessed property of the U.S. federal government.

These armed militias are not isolated groups, but rather part of a larger, growing movement of anti-government paramilitary organizations who have declared a willingness to oppose the United States government in armed rebellion. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are hundreds of so-called "Patriot" groups around the nation, and their activities increasingly threaten the security of American citizens.

In the interest of justice, we ask U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate the actions of the armed group in Oregon as acts of seditious conspiracy, treason, rebellion, and insurrection as defined under Title 18 of United States Code, Chapter 115.

Extreme, armed right-wing individuals and groups increasingly threaten the security of American citizens; they have occupied federal land, attacked Planned Parenthood, and killed worshipers in a church in South Carolina. These groups will continue to threaten our security until they are appropriately prosecuted for their seditious activities before they commit more acts of violence against American citizens. Demand that the Justice Department investigate and prosecute these groups and individuals to the fullest extent of the law.
