CHARGE STACEY CAMPFIELD WITH ETHICS VIOLATION

I'm Del Shores, writer, director, producer, stand up comedian and gay activist.

Last year when Stacey Campfield authored the "Don't Say Gay Bill" (SB51), I challenged him to a debate. I proposed the topic: "Homosexuality and the Bible." Campfield then agreed to debate me not on my proposed topic but "against my bill alone." FOR A FEE OF $1000! Here are Senator Stacey Campfield's words via facebook messages to me:

"I will happily debate you. I require a $1000.00 retainer fee and all expenses covered. You can do with the rest all you want." April 16, 2011

Herein lies the problem. Asking for a fee to debate a bill you've authored while the Tennessee Senate is in session is an ethics violation.

In late August I received an email from Victor Domen, Jr., Senior Counsel, Tennessee Attorney General's Office who informed me that an ethics complaint has been filed with the Tennessee Attorney General's Office against Campfield. I shared all my facebook and email exchanges with Domen, proving the allegations were true, and a formal investigation was launched.

According to Domen (as of 1/29/12) the investigation is ongoing and has not been dropped - "I'm still working on it--you know how slow and deliberate we can be."

The case is clear! Stacey Campfield violated a statute within the jurisdiction of the State Ethics Commission. After five months, it is time that Tennessee Attorney General's Office make that determination so The State Ethics Commission can file formal charges against Campfield.

Given this man's recent ignorant lies and statements about homosexuality and the spreading of HIV, spewing more hatred towards homosexuals, it is time to expose this homophobic bully so justice can be served.

Please sign this petition to help me send this message to the Tennessee Attorney General's Office, the State Ethics Commission and beyond. Also sign it for our gay youth, to let them know that when you question the creation, you question the Creator!

Why is this important?

Senator Stacey Campfield asked Del Shores for $1000 to debate him against his "Don't Say Gay Bill". This request violated a statute within the jurisdiction of the State Ethics Commission.

After five months of investigation, it is time that Tennessee Attorney General's Office make that determination so The State Ethics Commission can file formal charges against Campfield.

Reasons for signing

  • I'm sorry to say that this jackass is my representative. Not by my choice, mind you. Its time for him to leave.
  • "Slow and deliberate" my ass. Quit stalling, people.
  • I am a registered voter in the state of Tennessee. I have NEVER missed an election. I pay taxes. I am ashamed to tell people where I live. While watching THE VIEW on ABC the hot topic of the day was Stacey Campfield's "Don't Say Gay Bill". A society that targets any gender, race creed or color is an ignorant one. Why has he not been charged with an ethics violation? Perhaps the FBI should be called in as they pursued and prosecuted several senators in what was called The Tennessee Waltz sting...
