CHARGE STACEY CAMPFIELD WITH ETHICS VIOLATION
I'm Del Shores, writer, director, producer, stand up comedian and gay activist.
Last year when Stacey Campfield authored the "Don't Say Gay Bill" (SB51), I challenged him to a debate. I proposed the topic: "Homosexuality and the Bible." Campfield then agreed to debate me not on my proposed topic but "against my bill alone." FOR A FEE OF $1000! Here are Senator Stacey Campfield's words via facebook messages to me:
"I will happily debate you. I require a $1000.00 retainer fee and all expenses covered. You can do with the rest all you want." April 16, 2011
Herein lies the problem. Asking for a fee to debate a bill you've authored while the Tennessee Senate is in session is an ethics violation.
In late August I received an email from Victor Domen, Jr., Senior Counsel, Tennessee Attorney General's Office who informed me that an ethics complaint has been filed with the Tennessee Attorney General's Office against Campfield. I shared all my facebook and email exchanges with Domen, proving the allegations were true, and a formal investigation was launched.
According to Domen (as of 1/29/12) the investigation is ongoing and has not been dropped - "I'm still working on it--you know how slow and deliberate we can be."
The case is clear! Stacey Campfield violated a statute within the jurisdiction of the State Ethics Commission. After five months, it is time that Tennessee Attorney General's Office make that determination so The State Ethics Commission can file formal charges against Campfield.
Given this man's recent ignorant lies and statements about homosexuality and the spreading of HIV, spewing more hatred towards homosexuals, it is time to expose this homophobic bully so justice can be served.
