Citizens Against Titan
We do not want the Titan Cement plant in our community.
A group of concerned citizens who oppose the proposed building of the Titan Cement Plant in Castle Hayne. We are joining together with StopTitan.org, Friends of the Lower Cape Fear and other opposed groups, to protect our air, our water, our health and the health of our children from this billion dollar foreign company. We believe it is our community and we have a right to clean air, safe water, and a healthy environment. We believe our voices deserve to be heard. We believe that working at the grassroots level to unite our opposition is an important element in keeping Titan Cement out of our community. We believe that by volunteering our time and energy to this cause, we will succeed in our efforts. Our goals include raising awareness, building the petition signatures begun on the StopTitan website, and recruiting volunteers to our cause. ”Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Why is this important?
Titan, a Greece based cement manufacturing company wants to build a cement factory in Wilmington, NC. The citizens of Wilmington, (New Hanover County) do not want the plant in our community. It will be situated on the Cape Fear River and mercury and other toxins will seep into the river which is a source for recreation and fishing. Titan has filed a lawsuit against a pediatrician and a housewife/mom who dared too speak out at a County Commissioners meeting as to how dangerous this would be to the air quality and how polluted the river would become.
