Citizenship for expatriate children

Current law requires children born of expatriate parents outside the US to live in the US for 5 years before they can pass on their citizenship to their own children. Given everything we are doing for undocumented workers, it's time to get rid of this arcane requirement.

Why is this important?

My children have grown up in Europe as bicultural bilinguals; America is their "other" home. They are 49er fans, prefer reading in English and are indistinguishable from US-based Americans their own age. But their children - my grandchildren - will be denied citizenship unless my kids spend 5 continuous years in the US, which may or may not suit their career plans. This is unfair.
