Clean It Up, Plano!

We, the voting, tax-paying citizens of Plano, TX, ask that our Councilmembers vote "NO" to Dell, Inc.'s request for a Municipal Setting Designation (MSD) ordinance for the PSC Management LP (Plano campus at 2300 West Plano Parkway, Plano, Collin County, Texas). According to the TCEQ Document entitled, "Municipal Setting Designations: A Guide for Cities," "the requirement to investigate and remediate existing contaminated water...will be lessened or eliminated" when an MSD is granted.

It was only recently that we learned that 11 contaminants are present in the groundwater, and that this water has migrated outside of the physical building structures and is beneath the soil as well. Dell, Inc. has known about the contamination for many years, and we are just now being notified. According to the TCEQ, some of the contaminants are "long legacy" contaminants which are not readily "amenable to natural degradation and may be more persistent in the environment" and some of them "degrade to more toxic contaminants" which are present in this groundwater.

As such, we the voting, tax-paying citizens of Plano ask the City of Plano City Council to vote "NO" to Dell's request for an MSD, and would ask that the City tell Dell, Inc. to clean up the groundwater contamination.

Why is this important?

I am a resident of Plano, and an aware of the contamination at 2300 West Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas. Dell, Inc. Is requesting an MSD ordinance, which would simply prevent the water from being used. According to the TCEQ, if an MSD is granted, the likelihood that the contamination will ever be cleaned up is significantly reduced or completely eliminated. Several of the contaminants are carcinogenic, and all of them can cause major health issues. We are asking that the Plano City Council vote "NO" to the application, and tell Dell, Inc. to clean up the contamination!
