Climate Change and Alternative Energy

The fossil fuel industry exercises it's excessive power to persuade our legislature that use of it's products (coal, oil, gas) propels our country's economic growth, not just for today, but for the foreseeable future. Companies in this industry are among the most profitable entities in the world. As users of the products, we have engendered a new world...one in which climate change will over power our ability to correct our past excess uses of fossil fuels. We must change our formula for the future to replace fossil fuels use with clean green energy from the wind, the tides, and the sun.

The fossil fuel industry must be pressured to: (1) fund the research and development of new energy sources; (2) stop fooling society (in the USA and other parts of the world) into thinking the industry is a benign culprit in climate change.

Our federal government must encourage R&D in clean energy production by: (1) funding...tax credits, seed money...companies that show good prospects; (2) limiting use of fossil fuels through higher taxes on these products; (3) educating the public about the impacts of climate change; (4) creating economic growth by investing in alternative energy technology.

Why is this important?

The inhabitants of earth are experiencing the effects of over using fossil fuels...more frequent storms like Sandy and Katrina;; more excessive forest fires; "dust" storms; receding snowpack and glaciers; forests dying from beetles; rising ocean levels...all of which cost lives and tremendous funds. Alternative energy sources to supplant fossil fuels must be pursused with greater vigor and speed. Our country can be a leader in the effort, but we must start now.
