Tell Congress: Close Fort Bliss and Other Abusive Detention Centers!

Our cities are not battlefields. The U.S.-Mexico border is not a war zone. The United States is not a war zone. Normalizing military deployments in civilian life without justification, detaining immigrant children in inhumane holding centers, and ripping apart families is chaotic, cruel, and unjustified.
Sign the petition calling on members of Congress to stop militarization and close abusive detention centers!

Why is this important?
Billions of taxpayer dollars are being funneled into walls, troops, surveillance systems, and detention centers while seniors, children, veterans, and families are struggling with rising health care costs, Medicaid cuts, rising prices, and rent. U.S. immigration enforcement already receives more federal funding than all other major federal law enforcement agencies combined.
We demand that Congress act decisively:
- Stop Militarization! Halt the deployment of military personnel in U.S. cities and the militarization of local police forces through federal grants, surplus weapon transfers (e.g., the 1033 Program), and tactical training programs. Enact new legislation to codify and strengthen protections under the Posse Comitatus Act.
- Close Unlawful Detention Camps! Permanently close all abusive detention facilities—including Fort Bliss and new detention sites under construction, and stop the deportation-industrial complex by cutting funding to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
- Be Accountable! Mandate a full, independent investigation into conditions at current and former detention centers, with findings reported to the public and consequences for abuse.
- Invest in Our Communities! Reallocate federal funds away from militarization and into affordable housing, accessible health care, and quality education to help our seniors, our children, and families struggling to make ends meet.
We refuse to normalize this cruelty, and we will not be complicit in its expansion! Our lawmakers have a duty to represent the overwhelming majority of Americans who support our immigrant neighbors.
Sign the petition now to be in solidarity with all communities impacted by militarization and detention.
