CNMI CANCER PATIENTS DESERVE JUSTICE NOW!
The U.S. Congress is reviewing H.R. 10115 (RECRA) to compensate Pacific islanders for nuclear radiation exposure. Guam is included, but Section 12 forces the CNMI to wait for a "health study" first - ignoring federal precedent under P.L. 101-426 which proves our shared exposure to nuclear fallout.
This is an unfair double standard. Under U.S. Public Law 101-426, geographic proximity to nuclear fallout already establishes our right to downwinder status.
We shared the same toxic winds and the same ocean as Guam. We deserve the same immediate downwinder recognition —we do not need a study to prove our families are sick.
The Matua Council for Native Chamorro Advancement calls on Delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds and Congress to strike the study and include the CNMI immediately.
