Colorado: Join the U.S. Climate Alliance now

Dear Governor Hickenlooper,

As citizens in northern Colorado, we ask you to join the US Climate Alliance now. This is a historic moment for you to act for the people of Colorado, and for Colorado’s future, by joining with the rapidly growing number of state and local leaders across the US who are committed to protecting our climate and our planet by meeting the Paris Climate Agreement’s goals.
President Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement was reckless and short-sighted. It undermines our nation’s position as an international leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting our Earth, our country and our children from the perils of climate change.
Along with most Americans, a large majority of Coloradans recognize the huge threat posed by climate change and want to take action to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Since President Trump’s highly unpopular decision, leaders of states, cities, companies, and entrepreneurs have spoken up publicly and committed to reaching the goals set forth by the Paris Agreement. The US Climate Alliance is a coalition of states that have pledged to uphold the Agreement. Colorado should join this Alliance.
Governor Hickenlooper, you have a historic opportunity to make Colorado a national leader for climate action. As a strong supporter of the Paris Agreement, you publicly urged President Trump to stay in the Agreement and honor our nation’s commitment to reduce carbon pollution. Now is the right time for you to commit Colorado to meeting these goals.
With Sierra Club Poudre Canyon Group, 350 Northern Colorado, and Ft. Collins Sustainability Group, we urge you to join the US Climate Alliance and to set state policies and measurable goals that protect Colorado and Coloradans by achieving rapid reduction of greenhouse gases in our state.

Why is this important?

Along with most Americans, a large majority of Coloradans recognize the huge threat posed by climate change and want to take action to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
