Postage Stamp for Dr Selma H. Burke
The plaque of President Franklin D. Roosevelt sculpted by Selma H. Burke was used by an engraver for our dime coins. It hangs in the Recorder of Deeds building in Washington, D.C.
Why is this important?
Because of Dr Selma H. Burke's many accomplishments as a sculptor, educator, and gifted speaker, we seek this recognition for her long and impressive years, 1900 - 1995. An African-American, her many awards include becoming a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania; she had been honored by Presidents Truman, Carter, and Bush, Sr. Her good works go on with full college scholarships funded by her Foundation.
