Community Support for the Release and Bond of Abbey Shogbola
We respectfully request that the Honorable Immigration Judge grant a reasonable, affordable bond and authorize the release of Abbey Shogbola during his upcoming custody hearing at the Chelmsford Plymouth Immigration Court so he can return to his family in Connecticut and attend his pending USCIS adjustment of status interview.
Why is this important?
To the Honorable Immigration Judge:
This petition is formally submitted by the undersigned family members, neighbors, church congregation, and friends in strong support of Abbey Shogbola. We are united in testifying to his exceptional moral character, his unblemished record, and his deep, permanent roots here in Connecticut.
A Lifetime of Sacrifice and High Moral Character
Abbey has dedicated his entire life to the care of his family. At just 19 years old, following the tragic passing of his stepmother, he selflessly stepped up to become the legal guardian of his stepsister Elizabeth Shogbola, putting his family’s stability above his own youth. For the last 10 years, he has been a devoted husband to his U.S. citizen wife, and together they are raising their 7-year-old daughter Anaiah. He has absolutely no criminal history and has spent his years in our community as an active, faithful church member who consistently provides help, time, and assistance to anyone in need.

Devastating Family Hardship
His sudden detention has cast an immediate financial and emotional crisis over his household. His wife Alinda Shogbola is currently pregnant and due to give birth in just a few months. Taking him away from his 7-year-old daughter whom he was actively caring for and dropping off at school on the morning ICE agents followed and detained him, and leaving his pregnant wife carries catastrophic implications for this family. They desperately need him home for support & care of his dependents and his pregnant wife at this important juncture. Abbey poses absolutely zero danger to public safety and is the furthest thing from a flight risk.

A Pending Pathway to Legal Status Ignored
Abbey has done everything the law requires to regularize his status. He and his wife filed an I-130 and I-485 adjustment package and waited patiently for months. ICE agents targeted and detained him a mere seven days before his scheduled, mandatory USCIS interview. Despite the Deportation Officer (DO) and immigration officials being explicitly informed of this pending, lawful appointment, the interview requirement was completely ignored, and he was kept in custody.

Detaining a man who is actively in the pipeline to receive his green card prevents him from completing his legal process and tears apart a stable American household. If released on bond, he is fully committed to attending every single future immigration court date and his rescheduled USCIS appointments.
We urgently plead with the Court to grant him a reasonable bond so he can stand by his pregnant wife, protect his children, and pursue his lawful permanent residency from home.
Thank you for your fairness and consideration.
