Commute Howard Douglas Porter (G44433)
I strongly support the application for commutation for Howard Douglas Porter (G44433).
I have recently watched the documentary film 26.2 to Life which introduced me to the stories of all the men that are training in the 1000 Mile Club at San Quentin Prison. The President of the 1000 Mile Club, Tommy Wickerd, is one of Howard Porter's dear friends. The film gave me insight to the men who are being transformed through self-desired rehabilitation while being incarcerated.
Howard Douglas Porter has been incarcerated since November 24, 2006. Throughout the past 16 years he has been to many different prisons throughout California. However one thing has remained consistent no matter what prison setting he has been in, he has always been leading Bible studies (many times several during one quarter) or coaching baseball. He spends all of his spare time praying for his family, leading bible studies, and reaching out to his family through prayers and phone calls. He has a picture of each one of his grandchildren that he touches and prays for each day.
Before Howard was in prison he was involved in church ministry, mission work in Mexico and wrestling coaching. To say he was a dynamic person would be an understatement; anyone who has met Howard Porter would have a story of how his generosity of spirit, or inspiring words have helped them on their journey in life.

Howard Porter is honest about his past, and has accepted responsibility for all his choices. He is clearly transformed and has dedicated his life to helping others. Howard's children, wife, and grandchildren would love to spend the rest of Howard's life with him.
