To: The United States House of Representatives
Tell your Representative to cosponsor Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill H.R. 15!
While 196 Democrats and 3 Republicans have signed on as cosponsors of the House’ comprehensive immigration reform bill (H.R. 15), Republican leadership is stonewalling its advancement to the floor. Representatives who preach the importance of family values have the opportunity now to prove their support of family unification of hardworking immigrants by committing to cosponsor H.R. 15 and sending a message to House Speaker John Boehner that the American electorate wants a vote on immigration NOW!
Why is this important?
As a teacher in an ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom, I am consistently impressed by the determination of hardworking migrant students, most of whom are separated from their families as they struggle to establish a new and better life for themselves and their children. Immigrants presently face sometimes insurmountable hurdles as they attempt to navigate our dysfunctional immigration system. It is only just that we welcome these migrants who, as they attempt to support their families and improve their lots in life, must hide in the shadows while laboring to provide us with goods and services. We have a moral responsibility to share the wealth that we have been afforded by the efforts of our immigrant ancestors.
