Congress Needs to Take a Pay Cut!

Politicians have been blathering on since the 2010 Mid-Term Elections about the “spending problem in Washington.” They talk about cutting spending yet, None of Them lead by example. They want EVERYTHING on the table; Social Security, Medicare and the Military. If they want to be taken seriously, they need to put Their Federal Wages on that table before they start talking about taking away more from the poor, middle class or military! As long as their Wages, Health Insurance and Pensions are OFF the table, EVERYTHING is definitely NOT ON THE TABLE!
At $174,000 a year Congress can afford to buy their own Health Insurance on the open market just like they want Senior Citizens to do. They can afford a private 401(K) and put THEIR retirement in the hands of Wall Street like they’re demanding of everyone else. They can do all of that and Take A Pay Cut Too. That would show the America that they’re serious and willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

Why is this important?

Congressman Eric Canter wants to offset Disaster Relief costs with Budget Cuts. Worse he has the gall to say so following tornadoes and hurricanes that caused multiple deaths while taking a government pay check and wearing a $2000 suite!
Congressman Southerland of Florida claims it’s a burden to serve in Congress and he’s not being fairly compensated for his suffering: long hours, time away from family (being in Washington for 2 out of every 3 weeks and only getting the month of August at home to make up for it) and the treat to his life that come with the $174,000 a year – it could be worse, he could be going through all that in a war zone for 1/4th of that pay check.
