When Congress was established, it was for the sole purpose of "service to the country" which translates to serving the people of the United States rather than political parties, business interests or special interests. Now the Congress is serving its own personal or political needs. Initially there was no salary paid to those serving.
Why is this important?
All Americans have been affected. Special interests and political parties control a lot of the legislation in the U.S. because of political contributions.
