Current and former members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senators should lose their current benefits package and be placed on the Social Security and Medicare systems all other citizens must use. This would save millions of dollars and cause the Social Security and Medicare systems to be universal for all citizens and remove the Senator's and Congressman's preferencial treatment. Current and past Presidents benefits package should remain as it is today.
Why is this important?
Members of the U.S. Congress receive lifetime benefits that keep them from using the Social Security system as every other U.S. citizen must. I propose the current retirement and medical benefits package that current and former members of the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senators receive be changed so that they must qualify and use Social Security and Medicare as all other U.S. citizens must.
