Politicians of all levels are supposed to represent the interests of the people who elected them but are paid 3-4 times as much since they set their own pay grade and perks. The pay level for elected officials should be the average income for the district they represent.
Why is this important?
Like most Americans today I am disgusted by the antics and childish behavior of our elected officials. They can actively work against the best interests of their people, or even not work at all, and still receive salaries far outside the people they are supposed to represent. If someone from any other field were to behave in such a manner they would be out of a job.
