Serving in the US Congress is an honor not a career. Limit service to one term. Limit pay raises to Cost of Living Increases. No tenure. No pension. Have all members of the US Congress participate in the same health care system, and the same retirement system as the American people.
Why is this important?
Congress votes themselves special retirement systems, special health care systems, special pensions. They lose contact with the lives of the ordinary citizens they represent. I and many other folks are counting on Social Security benefits and Medicare/Medicaid to be there for us in our old age. If Congress must use this system, they will keep it in good working order!
