1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when out of office.
2. Congress members (past, present & future) participate in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund shall move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds will flow into the Social Security system and Congress will participate equally with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress members can purchase their own retirement plans, just as all Americans can do.
4. Congress will no longer be allowed to vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress members will lose their current health care system and will participate in the same health care system as do all Americans.
6. Congress will abide by all laws they enact for the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women will be void effective 12/31/13. The American people did not make these contracts with Congressmen/women.
Congressmen/women made all of these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so our legislators should serve their term(s) and then go home and get back to work.

Why is this important?
It is a privilege and an honor to serve in Washington D.C.as a member of Congress or a Senator...It is not a job for life with a cushy pension and better benefits than most Americans will ever have! If every person who signs this petition contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take a few days for most people in the U.S. to receive this message.
