Congressional Term Limits
Partisanship has always been a part of the American political system. Unfortunately the election of President Obama has resulted in Republicans giving new meaning to the term partisanship. Congress has held our government hostage while millions of Americans suffer the consequences. Corporations seem to be the only ones that Congress will take a break from fund raising to work for. It is time for Americans to take back control of the political process. As times change, what is the likelihood of a person who has been in office for twenty plus years changing their mind on important issues. If true compromise and bi-partisanship are to be staples of our government, we need men and women with open minds focused on fixing the issues that plague our country and not worrying about raising money for another election. We need a government beholden to the American people not corporations and wealthy individuals. Despite what the Supreme Court says, corporations are not people and should not be treated as such. Last time I checked this is supposed to be a government for the people by the people, not for corporations by corporations. So join me in demanding that Congress sign into law congressional term limits so that their focus will return to doing the will of the people.
Why is this important?
Our political system is broken. Politicians have become more concerned with keeping their seat than doing the work of the American people. Term limits would also lessen the power and influence of corporate lobbyists.
