Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins: protect Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare
Representative Lynn Jenkins, as your constituents we urge you to stand up for us and make sure any fiscal deal reached ends the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% AND protects Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits from any cuts. This is the only way to deal with trimming the deficit, which is required, while protecting the economy as it is still on a path to recovery. If taxes need to be increased further than the restoration of the Bush tax cuts for the top two percent then it is imperative to raise them on the top marginal rates to a level necessary to be on solid fiscal footing.
Why is this important?
The looming sequester mandated by the inability of US Congress to reach a deal on spending cuts and raising tax revenue by at least 1 trillion will raise everyone's income taxes and reduce spending across the board by far more than 1 trillion. That will send the country's economy into recession again. Congress must act soon and come up with a plan by years end.
