Consumer Protection Gone Wild!

I can't read my mail or check my email without finding out that someone else wants to dig deeper into my pockets and steal my cash. The cable company, the phone company, the hospital, and of course the banks. Everyone keeps trying to get me to sign up for direct deposit and direct withdrawal. Once you let the cable company start automatically withdrawing money from your account YOU ARE SCREWED. They make you sign a contract but it's all for them. As soon as they have your money they start trying to get out of the special deal they gave you, by screwing up the billing. Next they start slowly removing the channels they promised you one by one. But you are locked into a two year contract and you have no advocate to help you. The channels only come in packages but the channels you get in the base package are not always available in the more expensive packages. Worse then that there can be one channel that you really want, MSNBC for example, that is not available in any of the first three packages (although Fox so called news always is) and so you end up spending way more on channels you don't want (most of them trying to sell you something) to get to the one channel you do want.

Verizon left me without service right before Christmas for a week. They refused to send anyone out but did manage to fix the phone after one week. It was up for three days and then went dead. Now they are still trying to bill me every month for a phone that has not worked since before Christmas. After talking with neighbors and people around the valley I have learned that this is not unusual for Verizon. This is the way they operate here.

The consumer protection agency has a purpose to bring the hammer down on the institutions such as Standard and Poors whose fraud and abuse and lies helped cause the most recent economic crisis. Criminals should go to jail and changes must be made so that Wall Street rip off artists can not screw up the economy again.

This petition would broaden the scope of the much needed consumer protection agency to bring the hammer down on the cable companies, the phone companies, the hospitals, and everyone who is trying to rip you off.

The consumers of America need an advocate because right now the advocates in congress are mostly there for the top 1% wealthiest Americans.

Why is this important?

Broadens the scope and depth of the consumer protection agency to go way beyond just banks.
