Corporations are NOT people
We call upon both houses of the United States Congress to put forward an amendment to the United States Congress that explicitly restricts corporations from engaging in and contributing to efforts to elect public officials at the national, state and local levels. Such an amendment must account for direct contributions as well as indirect efforts through funding of PACs, so-called "issue" advertisements and anything else that might sway elections.
Why is this important?
The recent Supreme Court decisions culminating in Citizens United have given corporate interests unprecedented leverage in controlling the political arena. These corporate interests have corrupted the political process and threaten to turn the United States into an oligarchy.
It's time for a Constitutional amendment to return the power of the people TO the people.
