The cynical Supreme Court decision in Citizens United has done immense damage to the kind of democracy the framers clearly intended. Amending the constitution in order to return to governance by the people, not by corporate wealth, must go forward with all due speed.
Why is this important?
The Town Council of my community, Fairfield, Maine, unanimously supported such an amendment. The Maine legislature followed suit, as have a number of states. Democracy should not be dictated by the highest bidder. "Here, the people rule" does not translate as "the wealthy people." The people's democracy must be resurrected. Amendment of the constitution is the way this will happen.
