Deserts can be made green and productive as proven in the Thar Desert of NW India. One of the cash crops grown on desert lands, jojoba, is used to make biofuels. "Big oil" is working to impede all counter-desertification efforts to deter added biofuels production. Congress needs to stop pampering big oil.
Why is this important?
Some 1/3rd of all land is desert, and most of the 920 million people living in or near those deserts are on the "brink-of-starvation." A number of current conflicts were caused by hunger issues.
