#Covid19 - We need more Personal Protective Equipment
The Federal Government must back the domestic manufacture of personal protective equipment (PPE), particularly surgical masks, N95 masks, and powered air purifying respirators, if we are to stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2. We call for federal funding to ramp up production and distribution of this essential equipment in order to save lives. Health care providers are tirelessly showing up to work to fight this pandemic; please support them by ensuring they are adequately protected as they care for patients.
Why is this important?
During the current Covid19 pandemic, health care providers need personal protective equipment (PPE)--gowns, surgical masks, and N95 masks--to properly and safely care for our patients.
We are now facing a dire shortage of PPE, to the point that we are already **reusing masks**. If we do not take this seriously, we will see healthcare workers taken out of the fight by the virus and become patients themselves, compounding the problem twofold.
As health care providers, we are perhaps at the highest risk of spreading this disease as we care for those who suffer from it. Ensuring an ample supply of PPE will mitigate this risk tremendously. We must act now to increase funding for PPE.
