Create a homeless shelter in Baldwin County

Petition to Create a Homeless Shelter in Baldwin County, Alabama

Because everyone deserves a safe place to sleep.

Baldwin County is one of the fastest-growing areas in Alabama — yet it has zero homeless shelters. None.
Families, veterans, and individuals facing hard times are being left with nowhere to go. When night falls, their “options” are parking lots, beaches, cars, or unsafe abandoned buildings.

This isn’t right — and it doesn’t represent who we are as a community.

We pride ourselves on Southern hospitality, family values, and faith in taking care of our neighbors. But without a shelter, we’re turning our backs on those who need that help the most — the people who’ve fallen through the cracks but still deserve dignity and a chance to rebuild.

A Baldwin County homeless shelter would provide:

Safe emergency housing for men, women, and families

Access to basic needs (food, showers, warmth, medical care)

Job placement resources and mental health support

A path to stability — not just survival

Right now, people in need are forced to travel to Mobile or Pensacola — miles away from their support systems, jobs, and schools — just to find temporary safety. That’s not sustainable or humane.

We’re asking the Baldwin County Commission and local city leaders to come together and support the creation of a county-funded or community-backed homeless shelter — one that partners with churches, nonprofits, and volunteers who are ready to help, if given the structure and resources.

It’s time we make sure no one in Baldwin County sleeps in the cold again.

Sign this petition to demand action. Together, we can build something that reflects who we really are  a community that doesn’t look away.

Why is this important?

Homelessness isn’t just a “big city” problem — it’s happening quietly right here in our backyards. It’s the single mom sleeping in her car after losing her job. The veteran struggling with PTSD and no family to turn to. The teenager who ran from abuse and has nowhere safe to land.

These are our people — our neighbors, our classmates, our community.

By signing and supporting this petition, you’re helping create more than a shelter — you’re helping build hope, stability, and second chances. Change doesn’t happen unless we make it happen, together.

No one should have to wonder where they’ll sleep tonight. Your signature is a step toward making sure they never have to again.
