All New Yorkers, especially those in Western and Upstate New York pay way too much for utility services that are produced here. New York State has the highest electrical rates in the nation, but also have 51 power generating plants. One of these plants is located in Niagara Falls. The 2,353-megawatt Robert Moses Niagara hydroelectric power plant was the fourth largest hydroelectric power plant in the United States in 2010 and, in 2011, New York produced more hydroelectric power than any other State east of the Rocky Mountains. That is only one of 5 such plants in Western New York. The only state that pays more per kWh is Hawaii.
