In order to cut expenditures and promote shared sacrifice, the following legislation is proposed:
1. Cut the salaries of federally elected senators and representatives 20%.
2. Remove health insurance from the benefit packages of federally elected senators and representatives.
3. Remove federally elected senators and representatives from the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and return them to the state retirement systems of their home states.
Why is this important?
Our federally elected officials are not in touch with the reality lived by their constituents. They deserve to be compensated for their work, but shared sacrifice demands that they share in the budgetary cuts and challenges that face those constitutents.
