Cuts in Education and Health Care for Poor

Dear Governor Jindal and LA Lawmakers,

It is a fact that the state of Louisiana is the second poorest state in the US. Nearly 22% of citizens of this great state live below the poverty level. The income for the average family is below $23,000 dollars per year. Health care does not fair any better nearing 21% of the state without adequate health-care. This translates into practically a million people uncovered by any form of insurance.

Many of the hospitals that offer care to poor Louisianians are overrun due to raising cost of care. The efforts to kill the Health Care legislation will only hurt those who need it the most. And our education system is not fairing any better.

Louisiana has failed to even deliver the basic learning tools our children need to succeed in school. The expel rate for LA students is five times higher than the national rate. High School dropouts is at a record high as well.Because of this LA is in the top five states in the country with the worst education.

We respectfully ask our government officials to reconsider cutting education and health care. Poor people can not afford any more cuts. Our students deserve to be educated to compete in an competitive world where education is essential to the future. Thank you for taking the time to reconsider your position.

Why is this important?

Louisiana Republican governor Bobby Jinal has proposed to make deep budget cuts to education and health care for the poor.
