Why is this important?
Since 2011, NY State Senator David Carlucci, representing, Orangetown, Clarkstown, Ossining and Ramapo, has been a member of the IDC, renegade Senate Democrats who have formed a coalition with the GOP in the State Senate. This allows Republicans to maintain majority control of the chamber, letting them block or water down progressive legislation.
Senate Republicans have blocked the following legislation from passing in New York:
Women’s Equality Act to codify Roe v. Wade in New York law
GENDA to protect LGBT New Yorkers from discrimination
Voting Reform including early voting and automatic voter registration
Criminal Justice Reform including “Raise the Age"
Campaign Finance Reform and Ethics Reform to clean up Albany corruption
Single payer health insurance bill
Tenant protections to keep housing affordable
DREAM Act providing tuition assistance to children of undocumented immigrants.
As voters in his district, we are demanding that David Carlucci immediately return to the Democratic Caucus .
