De-politicize the public airwaves - bring back the Fairness Doctrine
The public airwaves that the radio and television signals pass through belong to all the people, not just the political party with the most money.
Decades ago, there used to be a provision that required all radio and TV stations to broadcast both sides of every story and to clearly label editorial content as editorial, it was called the Fairness Doctrine. This doctrine was upheld as constitutional by the United States Supreme Court.
The Fairness Doctrine was nuked during the Reagan Administration and that allowed political parties and PACs to propagandize the US public with editorial content disguised as news.
Should the public airwaves, which belong to all the citizens of the USA be held hostage by either political party? Can the propaganda lies be reported as news coverage and repeated so often that even intelligent people start believing it? Should the public airwaves be held hostage by either political party?
I think not. Please return the PUBLIC airwaves back to the PUBLIC and reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
