To: The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate
Dear Legislators...
Please be advised that the Citizens of the United States of America, who pay your salaries, do hereby notify you that if you shut down our government again, you will be required to work without salary
until the situation is resolved. Any legislator who fails
to report for duty must submit his or her resignation
immediately. You are required to ensure that all
Social Security recipients, Veterans and Military
personnel (active or retired) continue to receive
salaries and benefits without interruption or delay. Furthermore, Senator Mitch McConnell must return all salary collected during President Barack Obama's two terms in office. The Senator stated in public he "would not" do his job until Obama was out of office. Those funds can be utilized to help provide healthcare to those in his home state of Kentucky.
Why is this important?
The American people have a right to require our legislators--our EMPLOYEES--to do the job we pay them to do! This petition requires them to do just that. They cannot shut down the government over petty disagreements. They cannot shirk their duty for 8 years because they don't like who's in the White House either. If they are going to hold a position in the House or Senate, they become an employee of the Citizenry of the United States of America. We elect them and pay them with our tax dollars. Their wealthy donors are not paying their salaries. We the People are, and We the People expect them to do their jobs or resign their position so someone else can do it instead. I am a veteran's widow and the mother of an adult child with a disability. My late husband's Military retirement pay and my daughter's Social Security benefits and Medicare are a critical part of our livelihood. My father is an 86-year-old civil service retiree living on Social Security and his pension. We pay our taxes and we vote. Do your jobs!
