Deerfield Beach Smoking Ban - litter enforcement

To:
Deerfield Beach Governor
Deerfield Beach Commissioner

The Deerfield Beach residences need your help in banning smoking on all of Deerfield Beach public beaches.

Deerfield Beach is a beautiful place to visit and each year it attracts thousands of tourists. What is really upsetting and sad is the amount of cigarette smokers that are leaving their cigarettes littered all over the beach. This has become a health issue, not to mention the environmental issue and the danger that poses to plant and animal life. Children are being exposed to the cigarettes when they play in the sand and swim in the waters. There is also the exposure of unfiltered second hand smoking to children, pregnant women, and nonsmokers on the beach.

We ask the city of Deerfield Beach to ban smoking on the beach and to create a designated area for smokers (away from the sand and the ocean) and proper waste containers for cigarettes to prevent cigarette littering.

Why is this important?

I am a residence of the city of Deerfield Beach. I have a two year old son who loves playing with the sand and water at the beach. Unfortunately this is no longer safe. There is trash ( especially cigarette butts ) everywhere, and it only seems to be getting worse. This has become a health issue! i want my son to be able to play on a clean & safe beach. Please sign and share so we can all enjoy a more clean beautiful beach!
