Define Dyslexia in Education Law

The current definition of dyslexia in Education Law is incorrect, misleading, and counterproductive (it is listed under head-injury!). Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 people or 20% of the population.

Why is this important?

My son is one of hundreds of thousands of students who was left unable to read in our public school system. Hours of time were spent working with school districts; advocating for training teachers in structured literacy approaches - without this, my son would not have learned how to read. Ensure all children learn how to read in our state public schools - sign this petition for the first step. Hundreds and thousands of children across NYS and nationally go through school without learning how to read. It is a social injustice and is completely preventable.
