Disney should immediately withdraw its trademark applications for "Dia De Los Muertos." "Dia De Los Muertos" is a sacred holiday observed for millenia by the Indigenous peoples of the Americas and their descendants, NOT a Disney brand name. Disney's attempt to own "Dia De Los Muertos" is laughable and disrespectful to the millions for whom the holiday is cultural and religious heritage.
Why is this important?
On May 1, Disney filed ten applications to trademark "Dia De Los Muertos" for products ranging from jewelry to jellies. "Dia De Los Muertos" is not a brand name owned by Disney, it's an ancient and sacred holiday observed by millions across the Americas for hundreds of years. Disney should immediately withdraw its trademark applications.
