Oregon’s "kicker" law prevents us from saving during good times so we can weather the increasingly volatile ups and downs of our economy. As a result, our public schools face endless cycles of boom and bust.
It’s time to stop kicking back personal income tax rebates and start investing in Oregon's children. Please divert this year's expected "kicker" tax refund and use the money where it is sorely needed - - in the state school fund.
Why is this important?
The PERS ruling means more teacher layoffs, larger class sizes and shorter school years. We need to block this year's kicker and work towards reforming the law so that we may someday have a stable enough funding source to plan ahead and make long-term investments in our future.
