DMV and Social Security: Use the "ñ" in Spanish names!

The Department of Motor Vehicles and Social Security Administration refuse to recognize the “ñ” in Spanish given names and surnames, and use "n" instead. This leads to mispronunciation of the names.

Why is this important?

The Department of Motor Vehicles and Social Security Administration changed my first name from "Begoña" to “Begona." As a result, people typically mispronounce it as Bee-go-na, instead of Bee-go-nee-ah. I also have friends with last names (like Castañeda) whose names are rendered without the "ñ" and are mispronounced.
